Little giants lead green development, specialized, sophisticated, novel and unique technologies boost green, low carbon and recycling development. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) organized efforts to foster the fifth "little giant" enterprises and reviewed the second list of "little giant" enterprises in July 2023. Recently, the ministry has rolled out the list of the enterprises that passed the review. GEM (Wuhan) Urban Mining Industrial Group Co., Ltd., GEM (Wuxi) Energy Materials Co., Ltd. and Jiangxi Green Recycling Co., Ltd. were accredited as national "little giant" enterprises.

To improve the innovation capacity and specialization level of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promote the high-quality development of SMEs, and realize the advanced development of the industrial base and the modernization of the industrial chain, MIIT released the Interim Measures for the Level-by-level Cultivation and Management of Quality Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises on June 1, 2022, which noted that quality SMEs refer to the SMEs that are highly innovative in products, technologies, management and models, focus on market segments and have huge potential. Quality SMEs include SMEs at three levels: innovative SMEs, specialized, sophisticated, novel and unique enterprises, "little giant" enterprises. In the core areas of the industrial base and the key links of the industrial chain, "little giant" enterprises have outstanding innovation capacity, own core technologies, hold large shares in market segments, and have high quality and benefits. As the core forces of quality SMEs, "little giant" enterprises are on the top of the cultivation system. To date, five subsidiaries of GEM have been selected as national "little giant" enterprises.

Over the past two decades, GEM has stuck to a dual-engine industrial model of “New Energy Materials Manufacturing + Urban Mining”, and invested heavily in R&D. Through tackling world technical problems such as the technology for waste battery recycling, the technology for the green disposal of electronic waste, the technology for the recycling of scrapped vehicles and the ternary "core" technology for power battery materials, GEM has established China's core technology and intellectual property system in the green processing and recycling of waste batteries, electronic waste, scrapped vehicles and other typical waste resources, thus becoming a leading innovator in the industry.

This time, the three subsidiaries of GEM were selected as national "little giant" enterprises, showing the country's full recognition of GEM's tremendous innovation strength, advanced core technologies, large market share, and high quality and benefits. Guided by the philosophy of "Limited Resources, Unlimited Recycling", GEM will develop green recycling, continue to carry out specialized production, conduct refined management and develop new technical features, renovate technologies and products, and give better play to its demonstrative and leading role in the industry.
