Vanke & Destone Group Chairman Wang Shi Visits GEM-Indonesia QMB Park

On September 11, 2024, Wang Shi, Founder and Honorary Chairman of Vanke Co., Ltd., and Founder and Chairman of the Board of Destone Acquisition, visited GEM-Indonesia QMB Park. Wang Shi and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, and Ms. Wang Min, Co-founder and Board Director of GEM.

Amidst the welcoming cheers from representatives of Chinese and Indonesian employees at QMB, Chairman Wang Shi and his delegation embarked on a tour of the “Technology + Intelligence + Green” high-tech industrial park. They visited Indonesia's first world-class Nickel Industry Museum, the Cloud Control Center, the Innovation Center, and key workshops. Chairman Wang Shi engaged in discussions with Chinese PhDs and Indonesian students trained in China, gaining insights into GEM’s journey of integrating industry, technology, and culture. He praised QMB’s green development and its contributions to technology and culture in Indonesia, inscribing “Revive the Bandung Spirit!” as a compliment to QMB's achievements which highlighted the exemplary role of Chinese private enterprises in promoting green, technological, and cultural integration under the Belt and Road Initiative. Chairman Wang Shi and his delegation also visited the QMB residential area for Chinese and Indonesian employees, examining the facilities and amenities for daily life and recreational activities. They experienced the fitness facilities and enjoyed coffee at the employee café. Chairman Wang Shi expressed his admiration for QMB's outstanding efforts in employee welfare and social responsibility.

Following the tour, Chairman Wang Shi and his delegation took part in a “ESG & Low-Carbon Exchange Meeting for Chinese Enterprises Going Global” with representatives from IMIP enterprises such as Dexin, BTR, Zhongqing, MTI, and ChengTok Lithium Indonesia. The discussion focused on sharing experiences and insights on international business operations. Chairman Wang Shi highlighted that many Chinese enterprises going abroad face the challenge of “three inadequacies,” suggesting that entrepreneurs adopt a more proactive approach to integrating with local cultures and building strong relationships with local governments, media, and communities. He encouraged Chinese companies to forge a positive international image through green development models and to unite for mutual development. He expressed his deep admiration for the pioneering and resilient spirit demonstrated by private entrepreneurs, like Professor Xu Kaihua, and their commitment to green and low-carbon development, amidst the rapid development and complex challenges in IMIP.

Chairman Ding Liguo of Delong Steel Group emphasized that the goal of Chinese enterprises going global has shifted from merely surviving to pursuing sustainable development. He pointed out that while focusing on industrial innovation and upgrading, companies should also actively embrace and implement ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

Professor Xu Kaihua, Chairman of GEM, remarked that Chairman Wang Shi has been a prominent figure witnessing and contributing to China’s reform and opening-up over the past 40 years, with Vanke being a quintessential example of this era’s development. He highlighted three key qualities to learn from Chairman Wang Shi: The pioneering entrepreneurial spirit that prioritizes both national and global perspectives. The determination to challenge oneself, symbolized by ascenting Mount Everest. The unwavering commitment to promoting and practicing green development.
